Recall Brake Booster Mercedes-Benz

US brake recall may also hit German vehicle owners

The recall of around 290,000 vehicles in the USA of the ML, GL and R class model series from model years 2006 to 2012 could also affect German owners. The reason is a possible failure of the brake system and thus an increased risk of accidents.

Measure follows in other countries

Due to a possible defect, which could reduce the braking performance of the vehicle or, in extreme cases, even lead to complete brake failure, Mercedes-Benz USA is currently advising affected owners not to drive the affected vehicle until it is checked in a Mercedes-Benz workshop .
The reason is possible corrosion on the housing of the brake booster, which is checked for rusting through in the workshop and replaced if necessary. As Mercedes-Benz USA reports, moisture can penetrate under a rubber sleeve attached to the housing, which after prolonged use and in connection with significant water contact can lead to corrosion in the connection area and thus to a vacuum leak.

Mercedes-Benz confirms measures in other countries

After consultation with us at Mercedes-Benz in Germany, a spokesman confirmed to us that this measure is also being carried out in other countries and that there is already close coordination with the local authorities. At the current time, however, no further details should be given in order not to anticipate the official publications.

Over 70,000 hit vehicles in Germany?

We currently assume that around 70,000 vehicles will be affected, which could be affected by a corresponding measure. Rumors even say that there is said to be a shortage of spare parts and that the corresponding brake boosters will not be available until September 2022. Even an internal vehicle purchase program is under discussion – for 3,000 euros above the current residual value and a subsidy of the same amount for the purchase of a new / used vehicle. However, there are no confirmations on this.
